
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Meet Top Business Executives of Silicon Valley at White House
In an effort to foster innovation, investment, and manufacturing in various technology sectors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief executives of Indian and American firms today at the White House. The meeting, scheduled to take place in the East Room at 9:05 pm IST, will bring together industry leaders from renowned companies such as Boeing, Amazon, and Google. This gathering aims to discuss key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and space.
The esteemed business leaders will engage in talks with the Indian Prime Minister, exploring avenues for collaboration and growth. Notably, Vice President Kamala Harris and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will also join the meeting, underscoring the significance of this event. Following the productive session, a luncheon will be hosted in honor of Prime Minister Modi.
Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun will have a dedicated meeting with Prime Minister Modi, building upon the recent developments between the two parties. Yesterday, Boeing announced a substantial investment of $100 million in infrastructure and pilot training programs in India. This decision comes shortly after Air India’s procurement of over 200 jets from Boeing, including the 787 Dreamliners, 777Xs, and 737 MAX narrowbody aircraft.
During bilateral discussions held on Thursday, technology cooperation emerged as a prominent topic. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted the breadth of collaboration, encompassing technology transfer, services, and research partnerships across different domains. These discussions set the stage for Prime Minister Modi’s historic address to the joint session of the US Congress, marking his second appearance before this distinguished audience. The Indian leader previously addressed the US Congress in 2016.
Notably, the visit also included a grand dinner on the South Lawn of the White House, hosted by President Biden and First Lady Jill. Over 400 guests, including prominent figures from various fields, joined the event. Tech luminaries like Tim Cook from Apple, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Satya Nadella from Microsoft were among the esteemed attendees, further enhancing the significance of the occasion.
