Monumental Offshore Wind Contract Win for China’s Dajin Heavy Industry
Chinese heavyweight, Dajin Heavy Industry, has scored a monumental victory, securing a contract to provide XXL monopile foundations for Ocean Winds’ 860MW Moray West offshore wind farm in Scotland. This contract signifies a major leap in Dajin’s strategic growth, bolstering its position as a global supplier for offshore wind projects.
Operating at a production capacity of 1 million tonnes per year in China, Dajin is stepping up its game with planned expansions in Europe. The Moray West contract involves the production of 48 monopiles made from steel sourced from Chinese mills. The steel cutting for the first monopile has already begun, marking a significant step forward in this collaboration.
These monumental structures, weighing approximately 2000 tonnes each and measuring 10 meters in diameter, will be the supporting foundations of the Moray West offshore wind farm. To ensure smooth operations, Dajin has established a European project management team to work closely with both Moray West and its Chinese units.
Dajin Heavy Industry Chairman and owner, Jin Xin, shared his excitement about the contract signing with Ocean Winds. “This is a great teamwork achievement and a key milestone in Dajin’s development strategy,” he said. “We are extremely proud to contribute to a decarbonized and better world.”
In addition to the Moray West contract, Dajin has inked a monopile reservation agreement for delivery into the EU and a contract for offshore structures for an unnamed US project. These contracts have led to Dajin’s ambitious expansion plans, including a new 100-hectare fabrication yard in southern China and a foundation facility in Europe.
Upon completion of these facilities, Dajin’s annual production capacity is set to double to 2 million tonnes. These new facilities will primarily focus on next-generation turbine foundations, including XXXL monopiles weighing a colossal 3500 tonnes and measuring 15 meters in diameter, as well as jackets and floating foundations. This massive expansion will position Dajin Heavy Industry at the forefront of the offshore wind industry, solidifying its global impact on renewable energy infrastructure.
