McDonald’s Introduces Bold and Colorful Packaging Makeover
McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast food chain, has announced a modern makeover for its packaging, replacing the familiar red, white, and gold motif with bold colors. The new packaging, including carry-out bags, fountain beverage cups, and sandwich boxes, will be rolled out in McDonald’s restaurants across the United States this month. The company plans to expand the new look to its over 36,000 restaurants worldwide throughout the remainder of 2016.
The updated packaging features colorful accents and bold typography, reflecting McDonald’s vision to be a modern and progressive burger company. The change aims to transform the packaging into a form of art and support the fashion-forward community. McDonald’s sees the new packaging as a way to connect customers to the brand and create a playful experience. The company emphasizes that the new design is not only stylish but also sustainable, as it has committed to sourcing 100 percent of its fiber-based packaging from recycled or certified sources by 2020.
To celebrate the launch of the new packaging, two students from Miami International University of Art and Design created a unique “couture collection” of accessories within 48 hours. The collection was made using 50 bags, 72 straws, 22 cups, and eight sandwich boxes adorned with the new packaging design. The unveiling of the new packaging is expected to make a noticeable impact, given that McDonald’s serves around 69 million customers worldwide each day.
