GTT Secures Orders for Tank Design of Seven LNG Carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries
GTT, a leading provider of membrane containment systems for the maritime industry, has announced that it has received two orders from South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries for the tank design of seven new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. These orders were placed on behalf of an undisclosed European shipowner.
The LNG carriers will have a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters each and will be equipped with GTT’s advanced Mark III flex membrane containment system. The Mark III system has recently obtained approval in principle from classification societies DNV and Bureau Veritas. This state-of-the-art technology ensures the safe storage and transportation of LNG.
The delivery of these vessels is scheduled between the first quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2027, reflecting the robust demand for LNG carriers in the market. GTT’s tank design backlog has been expanding rapidly, with additional orders for 20 LNG carriers, including a previous order for seven 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers from Hyundai Heavy Industries in October, followed by eight more LNG carrier orders in November.
These orders highlight the growing significance of LNG as a clean and efficient energy source, driving the need for reliable and innovative LNG carrier solutions. GTT continues to demonstrate its expertise and leadership in providing cutting-edge tank designs for the global LNG shipping industry.
